A SURPRISE PROPOSAL AT BELVOIR PARK, AWAY FROM THE SUMMER CROWDS

When Wesley messaged me about proposing to his girlfriend in Zürich, I could not be more excited. He and his partner were coming from Texas to visit Switzerland for a week, and he wanted to use the trip as the moment to propose. As a wedding and proposal photographer based here, I love documenting every kind of love story, and a proposal in Zürich, specifically, is one of the situations I enjoy capturing the most.

Planning a proposal in Zürich in the middle of summer comes with one obvious challenge: the city is busy. The lakefront, usually the first place people imagine for a romantic moment, is packed with locals and tourists enjoying the warm weather, which makes true privacy almost impossible to find there in July or August.

Luckily, Wesley trusted my local knowledge of the city, and that trust made all the difference. Together we found a quieter, more intimate spot for the proposal: Belvoir Park, one of the most beautiful and least crowded green spaces in Zürich.

WHY BELVOIR PARK IS ONE OF THE BEST PROPOSAL LOCATIONS IN ZÜRICH

I have photographed weddings, post-wedding sessions and maternity shoots at Belvoir Park before, but this was the first time I came here specifically for a proposal in Zürich, and it will not be the last. The park sits right on Lake Zürich in the Enge district, with century-old trees, an iris garden, and sweeping views over the water toward the mountains.

What makes it ideal for a proposal in Zürich is exactly what makes it different from the lake promenade: it glows with the same beautiful light, but it stays calm and intimate even on the busiest summer days. For a couple wanting privacy without sacrificing one of the city's most photogenic backdrops, it is one of my top recommendations.

HOW THE PROPOSAL UNFOLDED

Wesley wanted to celebrate the moment properly, so I brought along a bottle of prosecco as part of the proposal photography package, something I regularly offer couples planning a proposal in Zürich or anywhere else in Switzerland. After he asked the question (and after the happy tears), the two of them toasted right there in the park, surrounded by exactly the kind of quiet, golden-lit scenery that makes a proposal in Zürich feel like something out of a film.

The whole afternoon was a reminder of why I love this part of my job. Helping a couple plan and capture one of the most important moments of their lives — especially when they are visiting Zürich from somewhere as far as Texas — is one of the most rewarding parts of being a proposal photographer in Switzerland.

Avoid the obvious lake spots in summer. They are beautiful, but rarely private between June and August.

Belvoir Park, the Lindenhof, and the Botanical Garden are three of my favourite alternatives for a quieter, more intimate proposal in Zürich.

Plan for golden hour. Zürich's light in the hour before sunset is consistently the most flattering time of day for proposal photography here.

Trust local knowledge. As someone who lives and works in Zürich, I know which locations stay quiet, which require permits, and which work best depending on the season and the weather.
