Wedding at Hunegg Castle (Schloss Hünegg) | Fairy Tale Wedding in Lake Thun

Schloss Hünegg (Hunegg castle) sits on a hillside above Lake Thun in Hilterfingen, a 19th-century castle built in Renaissance style, surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens, with sweeping views over the lake and the Bernese Alps. It's a Swiss heritage site of national significance, and one of the most visually distinctive wedding venues on Lake Thun. Photographing a full wedding day here, from a getting-ready at Hotel Chartreuse to a first look near Sigriswill and a garden dinner under the stars — was a genuine privilege.
This is the wedding of Lea and Jan.

Getting Ready at Hotel Chartreuse
Lea got ready at Hotel Chartreuse with her best friend by her side, and with her own hands in the mix too, being a professional makeup artist herself, she took care of her lips and some finishing touches after the talented Isabelle completed the look. Her bouquet was made by Rahel Heimberg, and her jewelry was from La Chia Style, details that added warmth and personality to what was already a beautiful preparation.
A First Look Near Sigriswill
As a wedding photographer, advising on location and light is part of what I do — so we planned the first look for a specific time window that I knew would work with the afternoon light. We scouted the area near Sigriswill in advance and chose the spot carefully: wide views over Lake Thun, the mountains behind them, and enough space for just the two of them. The moment Jan saw Lea, the lake and mountains were almost secondary, almost.
The Ceremony in the Gardens of Schloss Hünegg
Then came the castle. Lea and Jan arrived by vintage car, a beautiful old-timer that suited the day perfectly, for their ceremony in the castle's gardens above the lake. The setting: a dazzling garden with Lake Thun stretching below, guests in rows of white chairs, and an alpine backdrop that seemed almost theatrical in its beauty.
After the ceremony, guests played games by the lake while Lea and Jan had time for their couple portraits, relaxed, playful, and full of the kind of genuine connection that makes documentary-style wedding photography feel effortless.
Dinner Under a Decorated Tent in the gardens of Schloss Hünegg (Hunegg Castle)
As the evening came in, the wedding party moved to a beautifully decorated tent in the castle gardens for dinner, string lights, long tables, flowers, and the lake view just beyond the edges of the canvas. The kind of setting that doesn't need much to feel extraordinary.

The First Dance in the Castle Hunegg (Schloss Hünegg) Basement
The wedding party then moved into the Schloss Hünegg basement, a vaulted, atmospheric space available for wedding celebrations, for Lea and Jan's first dance and the rest of the evening. Dancing until late, in a castle, above a Swiss lake.
I was really happy to be the wedding photographer for this gorgeous wedding, and I loved meeting this beautiful couple. This is what the couple said when they received the pictures:
"Dear Gloria
We wanted to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the beautiful photos of our wedding. We are blown away and very happy with the image quality and the moments captured.
We appreciate how reliable, loving and professional you accompanied us in the preparation, the engagement shoot and on the wedding day as our wedding photographer.
Thank you very much dear Gloria, you are wonderful and did an amazing job!🤍"

About Schloss Hünegg as a Wedding Venue
Built between 1861 and 1863 for Prussian Baron Albert Emil Otto von Parpart, Schloss Hünegg is one of the best-preserved historic castle interiors in Switzerland — and one of the most sought-after wedding venues on Lake Thun. The castle gardens, terrace, and vaulted basement can be hired for weddings and private events, with views that rival any venue in the Bernese Oberland.
If you're planning a wedding at Schloss Hünegg and looking for a photographer who knows the property, the light at different times of year, and the best photo locations in and around Hilterfingen. I'd love to hear from you.
